Smacking children should be made illegal in England and Northern Ireland, doctors say.

Which makes me think…

I feel we overthink parenting too much these days. Violence has never been acceptable and never will be , but not every smack is violent and it shouldn’t be generalised.

However, amidst debates over discipline methods, using phones, screen time, etc… we often overlook a crucial aspect: a mother's mental wellbeing.

Striving for perfection in motherhood, coupled with societal pressures, often leads to silent struggles in mums and mental health issues that ultimately affect children far more profoundly than any disciplinary tactic. (Unless extreme of course). Not to mention that those two go hand in hand.

Maternal mental health as a cornerstone of effective parenting!

I love my kids to death but I’m not ashamed to say that there are moments when…

🤷‍♀️ They drive me crazy
🤷‍♀️ I want to scream and run
🤷‍♀️ I need to be without them
🤷‍♀️ I miss my old life
🤷‍♀️ I do or say things I regret

And I know I’m not alone.

All of this is totally normal and common for mums to feel…. but sadly, people still don’t talk about it enough.

There’s still this unspoken expectation that as a mum, you should enjoy every moment, and deal with everything perfectly (ideally, with your feet up and a smile on your face.)

The reality is, however, different and often FAAAR from what we hear in the stories or see in the media.

Why is it so?

Because the stigma is so deep rooted that it can be (and it is!) terrifying to admit that you don’t feel as ‘expected’.

So you pretend all is great, even when it’s not.

I’ve been there so I know how lonely it feels. But I’m here to tell you that you are not alone. ❤️

Any ‘negative’ feelings or thoughts you have - I GUARANTEE you that the majority of mums around you have them too. (Even those who seem to have it all.)

Being a mum is no walk in the park so please have some compassion for yourself. (Or a lot of it 😉)

You ARE doing a brilliant job!

Motherhood is not hard.

At least that’s what most of our grand mums would have said.

Why?

Because back in the day, mums were a team.

They helped each other out, raised each other’s children, hung out at each other’s places all the time… There was no competition, no comparing.

Just a sisterhood, a community.

Today?

A mum is alone, isolated, and judged.

THIS is what makes motherhood so hard.

The question is - what can you do about it?

Sure, you can’t travel back in time, but there are soooo many things you CAN do to make it easier (and more enjoyable).

It may be hard to believe, but it is actually sooo easy to cope with the challenges of today’s motherhood and be the happy, relaxed mum you always wanted to be!

A few years ago, I ran one of my first classes for

A few years ago, I ran one of my first classes for mums called ‘How to cope when you feel you can’t’.

As I welcomed mums upon their arrival, a lady named Anna walked in,obviously nervous and anxious. I sensed her social anxiety and agitation in a new environment, not knowing what to expect.

She was looking around shyly, visibly scared, wishing not to have to say anything.

I was determined to do my best to ease the pressure off her.

I started the class by sharing my own experience as a mum and my innermost thoughts and feelings I experienced when I struggled (I always share this in my classes).

I wasn’t just throwing information at them (I never do that). I aimed to make it a beautiful interactive experience that would show mums they were not alone. 💚

For the two hours we spent together, something magical happened. We formed an instant bond, a sisterhood that transcended the usual barriers of stress, comparison, and self-doubt. We were all in the same boat, united in our shared experience of motherhood. 🥰🤗💞

At the end of the class, I asked the ladies for their feedback.

When I read Anna’s, tears welled up in my eyes:

“I felt really nervous coming here. I’ve been to countless groups and classes for mums, but this was the first one where I felt truly seen. For the first time, I feel like I’m not alone.” 🥲

While every piece of feedback I receive is precious to me, Anna’s words struck a chord deep within my heart. I realised I was giving mums home without even consciously trying to.

Since then, I’ve been blessed to receive similar feedback time and time again. And it’s become clear to me that what mums value the most in my classes goes far beyond what’s written on the sign-up page.

And this goes for both, offline and online classes.

They offer something priceless—a sisterhood, a sense of belonging, the assurance of being more than enough.
