I thought I’d remember everything.
The first tiny stretch, first words, how I felt, and every special moment.
Turns out, life with a newborn moves at lightning speed.
One minute you’re holding a brand new baby, and the next you’re buying their school uniform.

And somewhere in between… your camera roll fills up with thousands of photos, most of which you’ll – let’s honest – never look at again.
That’s exactly why I want to show you the best memory saving hack I’ve discovered:
A photobook.
A quick backstory
When our twins were born, I was overwhelmed doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Between the night feeds, nappies changing, and the constant self doubt, thinking about memory keeping felt impossible. (I talk more about the reality of life with a new born in the post Having a baby is not a joyful experince.)
I took some photos, but I hardly captured anything in the first month.. and I regret that to this day.
Those early weeks were a blur.
I really struggled to adjust to life as a mum so taking pictures was the last thing on my mind.
Then for their first birthday, my sister gave us a photobook filled with pictures, and written stories from their first year.
I was in tears reading it, and to this day this photobook melts my heart.
The boys are now at the time I’m writing this post, and to this day, we often go through the book at bedtime.
They ask for stories, and we talk about what it was like when they were tiny.
I promise, having the pictures in physical form makes a HUGE difference – it’s not remotely the same as scrolling through photos on your phone.
The Big Benefits of Having a Photobook
Lets take a look at the main benfits of having a photobook.
I’m convinced that many mums, including me once, don’t realise just how many hidden benefits come with printing photos.
1. It makes memories more magical
Your parents or grandparents probably have physical albums filled with photos of you as a child.
That album with just 50 pictures captures years of memories, while your phone might have 50 shots of just 18 minutes of your child’s life.
There’s something undeniably magical about it.

The fewer the pictures, the more special each one feels.
When you scroll endlessly through your phone, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by thousands of images.
But with a photobook, every photo counts.
You slow down, savour the moment, and the memories feel MAGICAL.
2. You actually look at your memories
When on your phone, you don’t look at the pictures as often as you do when they’re in a photobook.
A photobook sits on your shelf, coffee table, or bedside.
Which means:
-
you open it
-
your kids open it
-
visitors open it
-
and suddenly everyone’s smiling at thr baby photos again
Your camera roll is buried under screenshots, shopping lists, and 52 photos of your toddler taking a selfie.
Photobooks bring memories back to life.
3. They make the early days feel vivid again
Your brain forgets the tiniest details far too quickly—even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.
But holding a physical photo can instantly bring them back:
-
The smell of their newborn hair
-
How tiny their fingers were
-
The way your heart melted watching them sleep
-
How precious and innocent they were
It’s incredible how a single printed photo can take you right back to that moment.
4. They tell a story
This is honestly my favourite thing about photobooks.
They don’t just show pictures—they tell a story.
You can add:
-
Weekly highlights
-
Funny captions
-
Little notes
-
Favourite moments
-
Firsts, milestones, and all those “remember this!” bits
Remember the first photobook I my sister gave to our twins that I mentioned earlier?
She added personal captions to each group of photos, describing a story of how mummy and daddy met and how they came into the world.

It’s one of the reasons I love going back to it again and again.
Because of the story it tells.
It’s like creating your own time capsule.
5. They’re unbelievably easy to make
This is the part mums always doubt, but hear me out.
You can create a photobook in rediculously simple steps:
-
pick 5–10 photos each week
-
upload them to Mixbook
-
add a caption if you feel like it
-

I love Mixbook for many reasons.
Firstly, I absolutely LOVE their photobook layouts!
Here are a few of them:

and some more

I also love the fact that you can customise everything, and tell a story.

Apart from photobooks, you can create calendars, prints, or canvases.
Here are a few of many calendar layouts:

6. Your future self will honestly thank you
There will come a day when your baby isn’t a baby anymore.
And when that day comes, you’ll look back at your photobook and feel a wave of gratitude.
Because it doesn’t just hold pictures, it holds moments, stories, tiny details, and feelings you might have forgotten.
I love looking through mine now, and it always take me back: to their sleepy little faces tucked in my arms, the first messy gummy grins, and those fat little hands that used to grab my hair while we played.
Honestly, these books have become some of my most treasured possessions.
They remind me of the parts of motherhood I never want to forget: and I know my future self will thank me for every single one.
Final Thoughts: Print the Memories That Matter
If you take one thing from this post, let it be this:
Don’t let your baby’s precious moments get lost in an overflowing camera roll.
You don’t need to document everything.
Just a few special photos printed into a photobook, a calendar, a couple of prints.
Sounds so simple, but it truly makes all the difference.
They turn fleeting moments into lasting memories.

Your memories deserve more than being forgotten in your phone gallery.
Give them a home.
